GINA

Eugénie Rebetez

Tanz / Theatre

In the centre of this performance stands Gina, a figure who fascinates us through her contraryness and her self-irony. Ridiculous and sublime at the same time, a young woman full of energy is dreaming her dream of an extraordinary life: to be in the spotlight and to enrapture the audience to a standing ovation. (Gina is a mixture between the Swiss comedian Zouc who comes from the Canton of Jura just like Eugénie Rebetez and Josephine Baker, the legendary music hall star.) Even though Gina knows how to wrap up in her imagination and in her sumptuous curves she still remains alone, on stage and in life. Forced to make fun of this loneliness as to be able to survive Gina sings and plays and cuts into the world in several languages. She exists because she gives us the most beautiful of presents: the mirror image of our very own confusion and delusion.
