A Chinese-Swiss dialogue about curatively strength
(**) in current programme (Sept-Nov) listed as «The Mystery»
Illness, cure and treatment are all part of the topics which are at the very core of this double show. Both companies are looking for the big healing promise in their own cultural and artistic contexts. In «Heiler werden» (Becoming a Healer), CapriConnection head out for a journey from the Swiss Emmental all the way to Quingdao in China. They meet the naturopath Rosmarie Megert, the Finnish deep trance medium Aulikki and the oldest healer in Switzerland. In China, they come accross two masters of Chi Kung: Mrs Cao and Dr. Li Yong. In their quest for the personal well-being things are getting more and more abstruse - especially if you try to describe them in a more definite way. When CapriConnection's actors cannot go any further with words, the two electronic musicians Yan Jun (Beijing) and Niki Neecke (Basel) let the audience feel the vibes.
In «Treatment» (Behandlung), Living Dance Studio takes a look at the treatment of illness. In Chinese language both terms relate primarily to the body. However, in contemporary China, people acknowledge that illness can also relate to the mind, the human relations and the society as a whole. Various patients appear with their different physical or mental ailments. Wang Hongjun's projected documentary film also examines the fates of real patients in a Chinese doctor's surgery. The anonymous individuals on stage and the nameless patients in the film come together in the installation by Jin Xin: One hundred pairs of shoes independently walk around the stage.
