After SUCH SWEET THUNDER (2019), dancer Thibault Lac, composer Tobias Koch and visual artist Tore Wallert return with a new collaborative piece. In this project, the trio takes the character of Harlequin as a starting point to create an immersive work where sound, movement, and scenery coalesce in an intricate exploration of the performative language. Both an archetype originating from the Italian Commedia dell’arte and a recurrent figure in art history, Harlequin simultaneously provides a reflective framework and a poetic device for the authors to revisit the conventions that traditionally govern the theatrical experience. The three artists mobilize and combine their respective practices in a double process of deconstruction and abstraction that intends to create a bridge between fiction and reality, enactment and self-referentiality as well as individual and collective experience. With its four-sided stage layout, FOOL’S GOLD immerses the audience in a sonic and visual environment, inviting them to an intimate contemplation of the mechanics of spectacle.
