Callout: pop-up archive for Black_stories

as part of Im/Possible Spaces
black_lab: Brandy Butler, Edwin Ramirez, Hermes Schneider, Rahel El-Maawi

The black_lab is initiating and hosting a pop-up archive for Black_Stories from March 2nd to March 14th 2020 at Gessnerallee Zurich.

We are looking for your hidden story for the Archive Black_Stories – a collection!

Are the depictions you know of Black people living in Switzerland also few and far between? Do you have Black role models?

Black wishes facing white reality, where and how do you locate yourself in life

Where and how do you orient yourself while existing in a primarily white reality

Under what circumstances do black tears run across your cheeks and why then of all times?

We are asking for YOUR contribution. We’d love to archive your memories, your day-to-day life, your biography, your individual story, your passion for detail.

Every Black voice matters!

Together, we will condense our roots, lived realities, fights, visions and dreams in an artful manner into a rhizome of iridescent Black everyday life.

Drop in from Thursday March 5th to Saturday March 7th and March 9th to Thursday March 12th between 12 am and 8 pm at Nordflügel Theaterhaus Gessnerallee and tell us your personal black_story. Archival entries can be placed in any language, but we have archivists who speak French, Spanish, Creole, English or German on hand to help guide you through your storytelling process. You are free to do it in either video or audio format; through photographs; your own pieces of writing. The possibility to create spontaneously through, i.e drawings or collages will be available.

The chance to perform or record your black_ness live on stage will also be an option.
No appointment needed.

Your contribution will only be published as part of the black _stories archive with your consent.

If you don't have the time to come to Zurich you can send us your contribution per e-mail or upload it online.

** open for all Black people of color and all gender

Public Showing & Party: Saturday 14th of March / 17.00 – open end / Nordflügel

Nordflügel Gessnerallee Zürich, Gessnerallee 8, 8001 Zürich

the black_lab is an artist's workroom for sensual bewilderment and laziness. Moreover, a catalyst for transformative rage.

the black_lab is an experimental arrangement for understanding and love.

Within the black_lab we celebrate and respect our multiplicity with the knowledge that we all carry a shared vulnerability rooted in a common experience.
