Warten auf die Barbaren

Dominic Huber / blendwerk

In the north wing of our building, blendwerk sets up a border station made out of temporary and mobile dwellings – warped constructions in a fictitious zone of transition. The inspiration for this walkable installation was J.M. Coetzee's novel «Waiting for the Barbarians» in which he creates a timeless Kafkaesque world: a fortress-like city of an unknown regime on the edge of a desert serves as defence against a supposed threat from the outside – the Others, Aliens, Barbarians.
