FREISCHWIMMER «INTIM»

Up-and-coming works in theatre, performance and live-art

The interlacing of private and public life is an omnipresent and well-known phenomenon of our time. Social network and reality TV, phone-hacking scandals, espionage and surveillance – they all have become everyday issues. Beyond privacy though, what about the intimate?

This year’s Freischwimmer Festival sends seven artists and companies on a quest for intimacy. To what extent is it different from the private? How can it be problematized in the public realm of theatre? Where can boundaries be crossed, where can lines be drawn, where can perspectives be changed, the inside turned out or phobias and yearnings be shared?
Freischwimmer 2014/15 finds intimacy on Danish television and on Austrian farms, in radio shows bursting with gelatine or in a motherly gym, at a taxidermist’s, in extraordinary family stories or during a very private dance in the public sphere.
